What 2021 Taught Me...
The end of the year is always a great time to reflect. Here are a few key lessons 2021 taught me...
Happy New Week,
The end of the year is always a great time to reflect. Look at how far you have come, your wins, areas of improvement, and opportunities for the next year. I’m grateful for 2021, despite the hardship faced, it’s been a pretty good year and I’m confident that 2022 will be a better year.
There are a few key lessons I learnt this year.
There are no limits, only the ones we put on ourselves. This year showed me that everything I want is within my reach. This is mostly because I surrounded myself with mentors and peers who have achieved what I'm working towards. When you see people around you doing incredible things, it shows you that these things are possible for you to also achieve.
Networking is an essential part of building a successful business. A lot of the time what most people struggle with is access. Access to opportunities, access to information, or access to funds. Building a network provides you access to so many things. Through networking, I've been able to get into rooms and have conversations with some incredible people. Building a good network takes effort, sincerity, and time. A really important part of networking is actually about what you bring to the table-not just what you want to get out of it. Contribution is a big part of networking success.
You can’t avoid the hard work. It is definitely important to work smart but you also have to work hard. Hard work is what helps you build a strong foundation to make sure you last the test of time. This year has been a year full of hard work and pushing myself to make sure I have that sustainable foundation to grow in the years to come.
Health truly is wealth. If this year highlighted anything it definitely was the importance of your health, physical and mental. It is so important to be grateful for good health, we only really understand the value of good health once we’ve had it and then lost it. Make sure you’re taking care of your physical and mental health. Don’t let your strive for personal success be at the detriment of your health. Listen to your body when it’s telling you to rest or else your body will force you to rest.
Make sure you enjoy the journey. I’m often told that the fun part is the journey, not the destination, (I’ll let you know if this is true when I get there). But honestly, success isn’t all about achieving goals or getting to a destination, it’s about who you become in the process. If you are setting big goals you are going to have to change as a person to achieve them.
The quality of your life is based on the quality of your decisions. You need to make important decisions around how you spend your time, who you spend your time with, how you respond to life events etc. These decisions steer the direction of your life. Time is precious and you need to make sure you’re spending it wisely. Spend time doing things you enjoy, that make you happy and contribute to helping you achieve what you want in life and assist you in maintaining your well-being.
These are just some of the lessons I learnt this year. Set some time aside to look back at the last twelve months and think about what this year has taught you. Don’t just let life pass you by, be present and pay attention to the signs. These lessons will help you go into the New Year much wiser and make sure you don’t make the same mistakes or maintain habits that don’t serve you.
